When carrying out a  risk assessment you should always consider the characteristics of young people so you will not be required to complete a new assessment every time a young person starts work in the organisation. However you may need to modify your assessment to deal with any particular work situations or any unacceptable risks. Unacceptable risks include;-

  • Physical / Psychological

  • Toxic or Carcinogenic substances

  • Radiation

  • Lack of experience, training or attention to safety.

  • Extreme heat, noise and vibration.

Where the young person is not over the minimum school leaving age (MSLA). A copy of the risk assessment should be provided to the parents or guardian.
