New and expectant mothers, women who have recently given birth or who are breast feeding are a particular group of people at risk and as soon as the employer becomes aware of any changes in circumstances (e.g. becoming pregnant) a risk assessment should be carried out. The risk assessment should be reviewed on regular basis throughout the pregnancy.

If any risk has been identified the new or expectant mother is entitled to a change in their work conditions or be offered suitable alternative work. If this is not possible they should be offered leave on full pay for as long as necessary.
