Screen
Should be fit for purpose,
flicker free for 90% of users, adjustable brightness and contrast,
screen should be adjustable (tilt and swivel), no glare and reflections.
Keyboard
Should
be fit for purpose and promote user comfort.
Work
Desk
Should be fit for purpose, of
adequate size and dimension, document holder where necessary for data
input.
Work
Chair
Allow users to achieve
comfortable posture, adjustable height, back support adjustable and
tiltable, footrest may be necessary if user cannot place feet flat on
floor.
Space
Sufficient space to allow for a
change of posture, free movement of legs and feet under workstations,
work surface at suitable height comfortable position of arms and wrist.
Lighting
Should
be fit for purpose, illuminate entire room, no imbalance between dim and
bright areas, no glare and
reflections at workstations, anti-glare
filter considered as last resort.
Noise
Noise distractions from office equipment i.e. printers,
photocopiers, shredders, etc should be reduced to levels that do not
effect the concentration.
Heat
Control ventilation & humidity in order to combat dry heat
from work equipment causing user discomfort.

Temperature
recommended 19 -23 degrees centigrade (minimum level 16 degrees
centigrade).

Fresh
air minimum 8 litres per second per person of clean, outdoor
circulated air.

Humidity
levels should be maintained between 40 and 60%.

Radiation
Reduce to negligible levels. However negligible levels of
radiation is omitted from modern display screen equipment that no action
should be required.
Task Design
& Software
Poor task design may cause the user stress, software should be fit
for purpose, not cause users problems or obstacles, ease of use and
adaptability, feedback on system performance, provide help pages, format
and pace should be appropriate to the task and workers abilities,
performance monitoring facilities should only be used with the users
knowledge.
