is vitally important that employees familiarise themselves with the
fire arrangements in the workplace. |

In
particular know what action to take on discovering a fire or hearing
the fire alarm.
|
| Including; |
| Knowledge
of procedure for calling the fire brigade, evacuation procedure,
escape routes, assembly points and who the fire marshals or roll
call officer are. |
| Knowledge
of where the fire extinguishers are located and how to use
them. |
| At
all time employees should demonstrate a good personal example of
fire safety, ensure local housekeeping is maintained to a high
standard by keeping gangways and fire exits clear. |
| Under
no circumstances should fire doors be propped open (unless on
automatic closures linked to the fire alarm). Fire extinguishers
should only be used for the purpose they have been designed and
never used as doorstops. |
| Fire
marshals or roll call officers should be responsible for maintaining
roll call lists with regards starters, leavers and movers. |
| Smoking
should only be carried out in designated areas. |
